Communicating your and your pet’s needs before, during, and after an appointment is critical in providing the best care.</div><div>- Disclose relevant, accurate, and complete information about your pet’s health and history.</div><div>- Make prompt payment. Our costs are incurred as services are rendered. In order to continue providing these services we must cover those costs.</div><div>- Follow administrative and operational protocols such as on-time arrival for appointments, health requirements for Pet Resort services, leashing requirements, and visiting hours.</div><div>- Recognize that medical care is rarely 100% certain. No medication or medical procedure is always effective, and complications can and do arise that are beyond our control. We will work with you in following up with any complications and will always act in both your and your pet’s best interest.</div>

Before entering veterinary school, Dr. Emmitt earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Embryology and Andrology, driven by her early interest in reproduction and sex differences. She later pursued both a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and a PhD in Comparative and Molecular Biosciences. Her doctoral research focused on traumatic brain injury and its long-term effects on behavior and neurology, helping lay the groundwork for treatments that support both human and animal patients.

Standiford Veterinary Center offers mentorships and externships for veterinary students as well as externships for veterinary technician students.<br><br>

Standiford Veterinary Center is an extraordinary general practice providing a great learning environment for our future veterinary technicians and nurses! Veterinary Technology externship students will receive hands-on training working with small animals. Students will gain experience in understanding the veterinary client patient relationship (VCPR) while working closely with skilled senior level veterinarian and technician leadership.

Standiford Veterinary Center and Emergency (SVC) is excited to offer you the opportunity to grow as an exceptional emergency care veterinarian in a safe and supportive environment through our Veterinary Emergency Mentorship Program.

Standiford Veterinary Center is delighted to host veterinary students for externships!  This valuable clinical experience will let you take what you’ve learned in the classroom and put it to the test in an animal hospital of your choice.  Our hands-on externships are designed exclusively for veterinary students at AVMA-accredited veterinary schools in their clinical years, typically meaning their 3rd or 4th year of vet school.  Since every student has different interests, we are excited to offer these programs at a wide variety of our amazing partner hospitals.  We know that travel and lodging expenses for externships can often be cost-prohibitive on a student’s budget.  To make our externships as accessible as possible, we offer stipends to externs to help offset these costs (unless prohibited by the veterinary school you are attending).

Cats & Small Dogs: $450 - $500<br>
Medium/Large Dogs: $550 - $600<br>
(prices vary based on medications needed for different sized patients)
<br><br>
Fees includes: DVM examination,, 12-hour block of care in our hospital, fluid management (fluids supplied by the referring veterinarian), pain management, antibiotics (up to 4 injections) or oral medications as prescribed by the referring veterinarian (if indicated), and I-stat w/PCV/TS (as indicated).

Treatments &amp; monitoring included in this package:

<ul>
  <li>Patient must be stable with no major electrolyte or blood glucose derangements</li>
  <li>Minimal blood work (including electrolytes as a bare minimum) checked by referring DVM within 8–12 hours of presentation</li>
  <li>IV catheter placement and treatments should be initiated at the referring clinic prior to transfer</li>
<li>IV fluids should be supplied by the referring veterinarian</li>
</ul>

Add-ons to basic overnight care fees can be added and an estimate will be provided to the client if indicated.

Package for Overnight Post-Operative Care

We launched NPVEC Overnight Monitoring specifically with the needs of the veterinary community and pet owners in mind. Referring veterinary feedback helped us tailor the program to better serve you, your patients, and your clients.

  <li>Fluids and additives as started by the referring DVM</li>
  <li>Medication administration at the same doses and routes of administration as prescribed by referring DVM</li>
  <li>PCV/TS 1 to 2 times during a 12 hour period</li>
<li>Monitoring/Observation</li>
<li>Rewarming &amp; TLC</li>
</ul>

  <li>Patient requires additional blood work outside of PCV/TS</li>
  <li>Patient requires additional diagnostics such as ECG, radiographs, or ultrasound</li>
  <li>Medical condition of patient becomes less stable</li>

Standiford Veterinary Center is offering 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-week externships to help jump-start your experience in a busy small animal practice. This is an excellent opportunity for any student looking for hands-on experience in a high-quality hybrid/GP and ER practice in a learning environment meant to jump-start their career as successful practice-ready doctors.

Students will receive a study guide based on the length of their externships and some recommended reading will be asked of the students. A minimum 40-hour-a-week commitment is expected.

Housing is available for students if needed and a stipend is provided as well.

Standiford Veterinary Center is delighted to host veterinary students for externships!  This valuable clinical experience will let you take what you’ve learned in the classroom and put it to the test in an animal hospital of your choice.  Our hands-on externships are designed exclusively for veterinary students at AVMA-accredited veterinary schools in their clinical years, typically meaning their 3rd or 4th year of vet school.  Since every student has different interests, we are excited to offer these programs at a wide variety of our amazing partner hospitals.  We know that travel and lodging expenses for externships can often be cost-prohibitive on a student’s budget.  To make our externships as accessible as possible, we offer stipends to externs to help offset these costs (unless prohibited by the veterinary school you are attending).

Students can expect to learn and assist in performing the following:

Our externship program requires students to be enrolled in their second year or equivalent of an accredited veterinary technician program and must commit to no less than 200 externship hours. Candidates applying to the externship must submit a resumé, have strong communication skills, be able to work well with staff and be at least 18 years of age upon acceptance into the externship.
